The European gas price continued to rise this Friday, reaching a new closing high, after it was announced that the supply of gas through the Nord Stream pipeline will be interrupted for three days.

The difficulty of the European Union (EU) to accumulate sufficient reserves to be able to dispense with Russian exports during the winter has caused the price of TTF gas futures in the Netherlands (a benchmark in Europe) to reach 257.40 euros, a unprecedented level.

Russian gas deliveries to Europe via Nord Stream 1 will be interrupted between August 31 and September 2 due to pipeline maintenance, Gazprom announced.

Maintenance must be carried out every 1,000 hours” of operation, the Russian company Gazprom said in a statement, adding that the Trent 60 gas compression unit will be stopped for three days and that the maintenance will be carried out by Siemens technicians.

After this period, the supply will resume at a level of 33 million cubic meters of gas per day.

The announcement comes at a time when Europe faces energy problemsaccusing Russia of using this source as blackmail.

Since Western countries imposed sanctions on Moscow following the launch of the Russian offensive in Ukraine, Russia has made several cuts in gas supplies to Europe.

Until last year, Russia represented 40% of gas imports from the European Union.
