The new operator of the Russian gas project “Sakhalin-2” announced that on Friday the implementation of productive and economic activities related to the project officially began.
“The new operator of the “Sakhalin-2″ project started on August 19, 2022 its work related to the project,” said a statement released by the company.
The Russian company indicated that the ownership, rights and obligations of “Sakhalin Energy”, which is the operator of the project “Sakhalin-2” (liquefied natural gas project), has been transferred.
The company also noted that the employees of “Sakhalin Energy” were transferred to the force of the new company, retaining their existing rights to social security and bonuses.
At the end of last June, President Vladimir Putin issued a decree implementing extraordinary measures in the energy sector and nationalizing the company “Sakhalin Energy” to become the property of the Russian government, in response to the sanctions of several Western countries against Moscow.
Before the nationalization decision, the energy company “Royal Dutch Shell” owned a 27.5% stake in the project, while two Japanese companies, “Mitsubishi” and “Mitsui”, had a 22.5% stake. .
