Active doctors can earn more than 2,100 euros for 24 hours in the emergency room

Hospitals can pay up to €90.56 per hour to service providers —called taskers— to guarantee emergency operations, reported JN. The clarification was made by the Central Administration of the Health System (ACSS) to the hospitals, in a circular dated August 5, on the diploma that establishes the new remuneration for overtime in the emergency room.

EITHER The Caldas da Rainha Hospital has already paid 85 euros per hour to doctors who provide gynecology and obstetrics services to ensure that they kept their shifts and kept the emergency room open: on August 19 for a 24-hour shift and on August 20 for a 12-hour shift. Every 12 hours corresponded to a payment of more than a thousand euros per doctor.

Decree Law 50-A/2022, of July 25, sought to reduce salary inequalities between day laborers and home doctors who work overtime, but the differences are still notable. Internal specialists can receive a maximum of 50 euros from hour 51 to hour 100; 60 euros from hour 101 to 150; and no more than 70 euros from hour 151 — that already exceeds the time prescribed by law for overtime.

The limit is 70 euros. Hospitals will have autonomy to determine the amounts to pay doctors for overtime

What was the basis for calculating the 90.56 euros per hour?

Reach 90.56 euros per hour for service providers, the ACSS started from the value of 31.50 euroswhich corresponds to the hourly value of the best paid position of department head, with 42 hours and exclusive dedication, but few doctors are effectively in this situation, says JN.

Doctors who charge 31.50 euros per hour, they can get a 150% raise if they work Saturday nights, Sundays, holidays and weekly rest days, reaching 78.75 euros per hour. The new diploma continues to apply a 15% increasehence the 90.56 euros per hour for workers who guarantee the operation of emergencies.
