Russian company Gazprom will make further cuts in its gas deliveries to Engie due to a disagreement over the execution of the contracts, announced this Tuesday the main supplier of gas in France.
Russian gas supply to Engie has fallen sharply since the start of the war in Ukraine on February 24, recently falling to just 1.5 terawatt hours (TWh), the French company said in a statement, quoted by the news agency. AFP.
This value should be seen in the context of “total annual deliveries in Europe of more than 400 TWh“, added Engie, in which the French state has almost 24%.
The group stated that it has already put in place measures to be able to supply its customers even in the event of interruption of Gazprom’s flows. “Engie had already secured the necessary volumes to ensure the supply of its customers and for its own needs,” the company said.
Last Thursday, France’s gas reserves exceeded the 90% filling limit for the winter, according to the European Aggregate Gas Storage Inventory (AGSI) platform, and are on track to reach the 100% target by November, according to AFP.
The government spokesman, Olivier Véran, confirmed this Tuesday on Franceinfo radio that the goal will be achieved “until the end of summerBut he warned that that doesn’t mean France will have enough gas to get through the winter if the Russians cut it off and if consumption is high.
In late July, Engie said it had significantly reduced its “financial and physical exposure to Russian gas“, which already represented only about 4% of their supplies. “It’s completely within the range of flexibility of our portfolios, so we’re not worried at all,” Engie Chief Executive Catherine MacGregor said.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Russia has reacted to the sanctions of Western countries with gas supply cuts, alleging technical problems or contractual changes regarding payment in the Russian currency, the ruble.
