A group of hackers alleges that they managed to access the data of thousands of TAP clients, CNN Portugal advances. This will at least be the information contained in a post on the group’s blog on the deep web. “Several days ago, TAP Air Portugal issued a press release confidently stating that it successfully repelled the cyberattack and that no data was compromised (but we have some reason to believe that hundreds of gigabytes could be compromised),” the group wrote. quoted by CNN.
In a statement issued in the early afternoon, the company reacted to what it called “accusations by an organized computer crime group that customer data had been stolen.” TAP said that he was “the victim of a cyberattack, a fact that was duly reported to the competent authorities.” It is recalled that, after detecting cybersecurity incidents, companies are obliged to initiate proceedings before various entities, including the National Data Protection Commission (CNPD).
Without confirming or denying access to the data, the airline guaranteed that “it continues to adopt, with the support of an international external entity and in conjunction with the authorities, all appropriate containment and remediation measures to protect the company and its customers” .
TAP announced last Friday that it was the subject of a computer attack, detected on Thursday night, stating that “TAP’s security mechanisms were quickly activated and unauthorized access was blocked”.
This Friday, in a first phase, questioned by the Observer about this publication, the official TAP source indicated that the company was aware of the publication in question and that it was investigating. The company sent clarifications to the statement made last week, where it mentioned that “no fact has been found that allows it to be concluded that there was improper access to customer data.” In that same note, the company stressed that “operational integrity is guaranteed.”
