Residents in the Yemeni capital Sana’a have said a suffocating fuel crisis has begun, the first time since a UN-sponsored truce went into effect five months ago, exacerbating residents’ suffering.
The move came after the Houthi faction, which controls most of the major population centers and urban centers in northern and western Yemen, accused the Saudi-led coalition of continuing to hold nine fuel ships bound for the Red Sea ports of Hodeidah in violation of the humanitarian truce.
The oil company in Sana’a said: “Due to the ongoing violation of the truce by the aggressive coalition through the detention of nine oil vessels and the resulting deliberate supply crisis, the Yemeni Oil Company announces that it is forced to work with a contingency plan starting tomorrow morning, Sunday.” .
Residents of Sana’a and northern Yemen fear a worsening fuel crisis, driving up fuel prices on the black market and escalating already high prices for food and other commodities.
