Inflation in the Netherlands rises in August to a record 12%

Inflation in the Netherlands registered a year-on-year increase of 12% in August, the highest value since its monthly record began in 1963, the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) announced on Tuesday.

In July, consumer prices had risen 10.3% year-on-year, CBS said in a statement.

The previous record was set in January 1975, when the inflation rate stood at 11.1%.

EITHER The increase in prices in August was due to energywith gas registering a “significant” increase due to the uncertainty that Russia will cut off its supply to the European Union.

The rise in prices in August was also driven by the increase in food and housing costs, according to the released note.
