In a lengthy email to customers, accompanied by a video message from CEO Christine Ourmières-Widener, TAP shares more information with customers about the hacking of the company.
“As CEO of TAP, I would like to address you personally,” says the CEO of the company, which suffered a computer attack, detected on August 25. “Fortunately, we were able to detect and prevent the attack at an early stage, without affecting our operation.” However, the CEO acknowledges that some customer data was compromised.
“The attack was aimed at us, but it also hit you, our customers. Now they are publishing the data on the ‘dark web’”. And the executive highlights a relevant point: “We do not want to negotiate and we are not willing to reward this behavior in any way.”
In the statement, the company specifies that “it has been in close collaboration with the authorities, in particular with the Judicial Police and the National Cybersecurity Center”, and also mentions that it has “the support of a team of internal and external computer specialists and forensic experts (Microsoft)”.
