Macron accuses Russia

On Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed the continuation of his support for Kyiv to counter the Russian forces that started their military operations in Ukraine on February 24th.

In his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Macron accused Russia of returning to the “era of imperialism and colonialism.”

Referring to the reports received about the intention of pro-Moscow separatists to organize a referendum, the French president added: “Russia is looking to annex and separate regions in Ukraine.”

Macron described the possible referendums as “fake” because he said they would be held in areas that were bombed and occupied.

Macron said the world was faced with a choice of war or peace, saying what he described as “Russia’s invasion” of Ukraine threatened global security.

The French president added that international justice must investigate what he called Russia’s “war crimes” in Ukraine to ensure there is no impunity.

At the 77th UN Summit, Macron spoke about France’s efforts to achieve peace, both before and after the start of military operations.
