Teachers admit to being on strike in case they are forgotten in the next State Budgetsin a fight that begins within a week in front of parliament, the general secretary of Fenprof revealed on Tuesday.
Salary increases and a more attractive career are some of the demands of teachers that “they are not afraid” of absolute majorities or of “going out into the streets to demand their rights,” said Mário Nogueira.
The fight “will begin within a week,” he said, and explained that on October 4 the teachers will hold a national plenary session in front of the steps of the Assembly of the Republic.
Implementing measures that make the career attractive, that combat precariousness and value the profession are some of the demands of the teachers who this year celebrate the World Teachers’ Day on October 4.
“I know that the Minister of Education feels very uncomfortable when he talks about struggles and the possibility of strikes,” said Mário Nogueira, stressing that they are not yet announcing a strike “but the State Budget 2023 (OE2023) to side with of the teachers, perhaps we have no alternative but to go on strike”.
teachers want the end of quotas in evaluations, they want to be reimbursed for the years their wages were frozen, ask to end vacancies that impede career progression.
“The existence or not of a strike is more in the hands of the Government than in ours. We do not want the State Budgets to solve all the problems in 2023, but we do want there to be a negotiation protocol by the legislator, between Fenprof and other unions and the ME, which provides for a way to value the teaching profession in a staggered way . way”, explained Mario Nogueira.
Therefore, teachers will wait for the proposal of the General State Budgets.
Mário Nogueira also recalled that salary increases are needed that can respond to the devaluation above 14% that has been felt in the last decade, defending that increases “below 10% is a tremendous loss.”
