Workers at the Metropolitano de Lisboa will hold a 24-hour strike on October 12 for wage increases and better working conditions, the union source said Thursday, revealing that this is the beginning of “new struggles.”
“We are going to strike on the 12th, 24 hours”Anabela Carvalheira, from the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (FECTRANS), indicated.
Speaking to Lusa, the trade unionist explained that the Lisbon Metropolitan administration is “irreducible and without any negotiating capacity,” so the negotiation process that began months ago has not concluded.
Therefore, the workers “do not have wage increases, which, given this situation with inflation of 9% per month, is not admissible at all,” he said.
Workers are losing purchasing power,” he stressed.
Anabela Carvalheira also highlighted that there is still a lack of workers in the Lisbon Metro.
Another reason is related to two disciplinary proceedings with the intention of dismissal that the company raised against two workers after a strike held in June, which FECTRANS considers illegal.
“Given these reasons, we are going to start a stage of new struggles, being already scheduled a plenary session for October 10 decide these new forms of struggle”, said the trade unionist.
