The TAP Executive Committee backed down with the intention of renewing the fleet with BMW and will maintain the “current fleet” for a maximum period of one year. According to a statement sent by the company, those responsible understand “the general feeling of the Portuguese” and, despite believing that the decision would be the “least onerous for the company in current market conditions”, they will keep the cars that already exist.
According to CNN, which broke the news, TAP ordered dozens of BMWs, plug hybrids and with market values of 52 to 65 thousand euros, for executive directors and senior managers. The airline guaranteed that the decision would allow spending less money compared to the fleet of old cars, which was mainly composed of Peugeot.
After the news and the harsh criticism of the company, TAP ended up being reminded of the decision and justification as the “general sentiment of the Portuguese”, or that it will lead the administrators and directors to keep the Peugeot cars that they have “for a maximum period of one year”.
TAP orders dozens of BMWs for CEOs and senior managers
CNN Portugal says that it had access to an initial order of 79 BMW cars, from the 5 series, X2 and X3. The airline had guaranteed that “a tender was made to the market, in accordance with the TAP purchasing manual, and six entities were invited to participate in the Portuguese market”, whose names were not mentioned.
TAP also stated that it would spend less money on rental (monthly lease payments) of cars with the new fleet compared to the old one. However, he did not reveal the monthly cost of it. Even so, given the known data, TAP withdrew and will even maintain the existing fleet.
