The UNITA parliamentary group, the largest Angolan opposition party, called for an urgent meeting with the Minister of Transport to obtain clarification on the strike of pilots of the flag carrier, given the impact of the strike.
The TAAG pilots’ union called a strike between October 7 and 16. Given the “seriousness of the problem” and the “political, social and economic impact” of the strike on families, companies and citizens in general, the UNITA parliamentary group decided to request an urgent meeting with the Minister of Transport, “which aims to obtain clarifications about the situation of the strike announced by the TAAG pilots, because it is a strategic company for the Angolan State”.
The National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) intends to investigate the causes that led to this situation, as well as the “difficulties that the executive and the board of the company have had to resolve the concerns presented, within the framework of the brochure , claim, by the pilots’ union” of the Angolan airline.
According to a statement issued on Saturday, TAAG has created a “contingency plan to minimize the impact of the possible closure” and has meetings scheduled between October 3 and 7 to review the situation together with the union.
On July 20, the airline pilots’ union (SPLA) was handed over to TAAG, and meetings were held in which the airline “presented several resolution proposals, duly framed in its financial reality”, and with the “firm objective” of accommodating the pilots. ‘ requests, reads the same note.
TAAG’s management also stresses that “its focus on providing services with the quality appropriate to the expectations” of customers, “forces us to act quickly and minimize any impact that may be caused to them”.
In this sense, after receiving information about the “possible stoppage” of the company’s planes, TAAG drew up a plan that “will allow scheduled flights to be carried out during the strike period.”
Lusa contacted the pilots’ union to find out details about the ongoing negotiations with TAAG management, but those responsible sent information for later.
