European: the PCP wants to know where the government plans to cut 2.8 billion euros in public spending

The general secretary of the PCP called this Tuesday for debates on equal terms for all parties, arguing that PSD, CDS and PS should explain where they plan to cut 2.8 billion euros of public spending that they approved in the European Parliament.

“We believe that there is no reason why there should be different opinions between the parties competing in the elections. [europeias] and part of the resolution of this problem is in the hands of television, which we hope will not give in to the interests and pressures of those who call themselves big parties, but the problem of the European Parliament (EP) is far from being one of the debates,” he said. Paulo Raimundo to journalists, in Santarém, on the sidelines of a visit to the National Zootechnical Station.

The communist leader criticized the recent approval of new budgetary rules in the EP, with repercussions on Portuguese public spending.

According to the communist leader, “the European Parliament approved a week ago, with the votes of the PS, PSD and CDS (…) the new budgetary rules that, among other things, seek impose a cut in public spending of 2.8 billion euros“, an amount that “is more than what the country spends per year on medicines, so that we can get an idea of the magnitude of the problem.”

“This will be an aspect that we will not abandon and the PS, the PSD and the CDS, but also Chega and IL, will have to explain to everyone where they are going to make these cuts,” he stressed.

Paulo Raimundo also stated that the Portuguese need to know if the cuts “are in tax benefits for large economic groups, in public-private partnerships, in roads or even in health.” or whether “there will be more left for wages, living conditions or the National Health Service” (Social networks).

“That is what It is the answer that must be given and that is the center of the debate in the European Parliament. There will be an opportunity for this and I hope that they do not disappoint the expectations that have been created,” he stated.

This Tuesday, Paulo Raimundo visited the Fonte Boa Innovation Pole, at the National Zootechnical Station, in the Santarém Valley, with the aim of “valuing and setting an example” that “the country has the conditions, the means, the resources and the capabilities to move forward.”

The Fonte Boa Innovation Pole – National Zootechnical Station, is considered a reference center for the valorization of agricultural and agri-food production systems, and the activities carried out there are based on aspects of scientific research, innovation and experimentation, training technical and academic. and knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship.

Paulo Raimundo praised the work done there, on the one hand, but, on the other, criticized the Government of Luís Montenegro.

“The Government has a program, project and specific objectives, that do not take into account either national production or the valorization of our capabilities“, but which, he stated, “has scrupulously fulfilled its program: to deliver everything it can and as quickly as possible to economic interests.”

According to the general secretary of the PCP, it is “a government that is very slow in layoffs and very slow in solving problems,” having set an example with the security forces and the police.

The campaign for the European elections begins on May 27 and will last until June 7. The European elections are scheduled for June 9.
