Three people were arrested during a joint operation by the GNR and the Tax and Customs Authority, in which 25 cars, a motorcycle, 17,380 cigarettes and three kilos of tobacco were seized, it was announced this Friday.
Operation “RED VI” took place on Thursday on several roads in the country and involved 366 inspectors from the Tax Authority and 503 soldiers from the GNR, from all the districts and autonomous regions of the Azores and Madeira and from the Tax Action Unit. .
In a joint statement, the entities responsible for this action indicated that goods transport vehicles were the preferred target for the inspection, but also light vehicles.
HE The objective was to control compliance with the rules related to transport documents. and invoicing of goods subject to excise taxes, specifically on oil and energy products, tobacco, alcoholic beverages and VAT, as well as “the regular status of vehicles with foreign license plates” in circulation in the national territory.
8,839 vehicles were inspected and three people were arrested, two for driving without a legal license and one for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The authorities prepared a report for falsification of documents and filed 347 complaints for tax and customs violations, in addition to 443 complaints for various violations of road legislation, working conditions and the environment.
