Lawyer Elaine Bredehof on Thursday reacted to the jury’s decision in the libel case against her client Amber Heard in favor of actor Johnny Depp.
Speaking to NBC’s Segodnya, Bredehof described the decision as “a failure for all women”. He lamented his client’s social media backlash and said it was “in no way” that he was influencing the jury.
“[Amber Heard] demonized here,” said Bredehof. “There are some things that shouldn’t be allowed in this courtroom and that’s causing confusion for the jury. We are not allowed to inform them about the decision in England. ”
Host Savannah Guthrie asked if online hate played a role in the case, as jurors could see them walking home.
Do you think they saw? asked Guthrie.
– How not? Bredehof replied. “They come home every night. They have families. The family is on social media. We took a 10-day break because of the jury meeting. It inevitably affected them and it was terrible. It was really one-sided.”
“I was against the cameras in the courtroom, I wrote it down in the minutes and objected because of its sensitivity. But it has been turned into a zoo,” the lawyer added.
Bredehof said Hurd “absolutely” wanted to appeal the jury’s decision.
“And there’s good reason for that,” he added.
