Comedian Dave Chappelle donated the proceeds from his show in Buffalo, New York, to the families of the victims of the May 14 Tops supermarket mass murder.
According to the ABC 7 report, Chappelle has booked a last-minute comedy show in Buffalo, where it announced that all proceeds from the event will be donated to the families of victims of mass shootings in the city.
At the end of his speech, the comedian added that he invited the families of the victims to the show and they were with the audience. The show was held at the Shea Performing Arts Center in Buffalo.
“I came to Buffalo to identify these victims and their families,” said Kevin Sweeney, director of marketing and communications for the Shea Center for the Performing Arts, Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, and I commented.
Attendees of the comedy show said the event was “a very emotional yet fun night”, “to the point” and “seriously inspiring”.
Ten people were killed and three injured in a mass shooting at Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo on May 14. At a press conference later that day, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said that “the shooter had traveled for several hours outside of this community to carry out the attack.”
Buffalo Police Chief Joseph Gramaglia described the suspect as “an 18-year-old white man”, adding that the criminal was wearing a tactical helmet and “a camera and live-streamed what he was doing.”
This isn’t the first time Chappelle has given money to victims of mass shooting from one of his events.
In 2019 Chappelle hosted a charity party to honor the victims of the mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio that killed 10 people and injured more than two dozen.
