Eduardo Alexandre Fontes, regional director of the Federal Police in Amazonas, confirmed this Wednesday (15) that human remains have been found in the search area cited by suspects in the disappearance of native Bruno Araújo Pereira and British journalist Dom Phillips.
Earlier, Minister of Justice Anderson Torres announced that “the remains of bodies were found in the area where the excavations were carried out”.
The bodies were found in the woods, 3.1 kilometers from where the suspects reported the crime was committed. Identification of the bodies will take place at the Federal Police National Criminalistics Institute in Brasília from Thursday 16th.
According to Fontes, there could be new arrests at any time. Oseney da Costa de Oliveira, the second person investigated in the case, received a 30-day provisional arrest warrant this Wednesday.
The other suspect, Amarildo Oliveira da Costa, Oseney’s brother, who has been in temporary detention for 30 days, admitted his involvement in the murder of the duo and pointed to the place where he had buried the bodies.
Amarildo told federal police that someone else was responsible for the shooting of Pereira and Phillips. He also said that his involvement was only at the moment when he helped bury the two of them. He also told agents that the bodies were mutilated and burned.
