The violence is the final embarrassment for Chicago Mayor Laurie Lightfoot (D), who has presided over an epidemic of gun violence that has killed hundreds. With 797 murders, 2021 will be Chicago’s deadliest year in a quarter-century, according to Breitbart News. There were 3,561 shooting incidents in 2021, more than 300 from the previous year.
According to Breitbart News, 71 people were shot in Chicago last July 4 weekend, eight of whom died.
