Requested by the Governor of California. Gavin Newsom (D) said Wednesday that Hollywood studios will boycott states that have passed pro-life laws and abortion restrictions as they support a five-year extension of the $1.65 billion state tax credit for the entertainment industry.
Newsom announced his support for the tax cut, and in an accompanying public ad entitled “Hollywood: Your Values, Your Choice,” Newsom said it was “election time” between California’s liberal values and conservative states (emphasis added). :
Now, the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Those same states are rapidly taking away reproductive freedom, Wade said.
…
The freedom to tell your stories. Freedom to access the healthcare you need, including abortion services.
…
That’s why we say in California to those who have the power to decide where to shoot, where to hire, where to open new offices: .
Now Hollywood will wake up from this ad.
It’s election time.
You can either protect your employees or continue to support anti-abortion states that rule with hatred.
We are here for you. We’re expanding tax credits for Golden State shippers.
Choose freedom.

Newsom’s message suggests that the state is willing to impose its ideological views on the entertainment industry, and that the “freedoms” the industry enjoys in the state are dependent on the state’s views, including access to tax breaks.
Without any irony, Newsom argued, joining the government’s perspective means choosing “creativity.”
California has a habit of boycotting conservative states, so the state has banned official travel to 22 states, almost half the country. (This didn’t stop Newsom from vacationing in Idaho and hiring the state security service in violation of the ban.)
Despite boycotts and threats, states like Georgia are seeing record spending on film and TV productions, Breitbart News reported on Wednesday. One reason for Newsom’s tough announcement is that California faces stiff competition from states and countries that offer the industry lower production costs, less regulation, and more tax breaks.
