Prosecutors: Security guard at Chicago restaurant Lollapalooza calls for fake mass shooting to leave work early

According to prosecutors and police reports, a security guard allegedly threatened a mass shooting at the annual Lollapalooza concert in Chicago, causing a large police presence and even the FBI to pick him up early from work.

At 2:48 p.m. Friday, 18-year-old concert security guard Janya Williams reportedly sent a shocking message to her superiors, “A 4 p.m. mass shooting at the Lollapalooza venue. We have 150 targets,” she said.

Naturally, Chicago police responded with force, and federal agents, including the FBI’s Joint Counterterrorism Team, joined them in an unspoken threat, according to CWBCChicago.

Williams was asked to review her post about the shooting and said her sister said she saw a threat posted on Facebook by the suspected attacker.

Williams allegedly created a fake account under the name “Ben Scott” when his executives asked Williams to provide evidence of a threat from Facebook. He later reportedly wrote a Facebook post that read, “Mass fire in Lollapalooza Grant Park at 6 am.”

CWBCChicago added that the FBI learned that the alleged firing threat came from a TextNow account linked to Williams’ iCloud and IP address.

Williams allegedly agreed to the plan and said he did it to take a day off.

On Sunday, a Lawndale resident was charged with making false terrorism threats and was arrested in lieu of $50,000 bail. Chicago Tribune.

Williams is being held at Cook County Penitentiary and will appear in court again next Monday.
