The Scottish public health statement said the first confirmed case of monkeypox had been reported today, adding that an infected person was receiving treatment while contacts were being monitored.

“We are working with the National Health Service and other partners in Scotland and the UK to investigate the source of this infection,” said Nick Finn, director of public health research at the agency. Close contacts of the sick person are identified, they are given medical information and consultations.

In connection with this, the Danish Ministry of Health said in a statement today that it had recorded the first case of monkeypox virus infection in a man returning from a trip to Spain.

“Health authorities do not anticipate the spread of the infection in Denmark, but we are monitoring the situation closely to prepare for the possible development of infections,” Health Minister Magnus Heneka said in a statement. The department said the man is currently isolated, and authorities are monitoring the status of his contacts.
