Researchers in Britain recruited 102 healthy people whose entire DNA code was read from blood or saliva samples.

The results revealed that a quarter of the participants had “processed” DNA mutations, which means an increased risk of diseases for which there are treatments.
Finding this could lead to a change in how their GP treats patients, whether it offers them follow-up, screening, lifestyle changes or other prevention measures, he said. of researchers.
Scientists have also found that 60% of people carry a genetic mutation in a “recessive” gene, meaning they will not show any condition, but can pass it on to their children if their partner has the same recessive. gene.

The study, led by the Institute of Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, was the first to show that whole genome sequencing can provide valuable genetic data in a primary care setting.
Dr Ross Ellis, who led the study, said the team was in talks with the NHS of England and hoped to have a more comprehensive genetic health assessment in general practice within a few years.
