Today, at a meeting at the Ministry of Health, led by Minister Firas Al-Abiad, an agreement was reached so as not to incur any additional cost for kidney patients in exchange for dialysis sessions.

Al-Abyad stressed after meeting with stakeholders that “full support for dialysis treatment continues, 100%, and there are no plans to increase it”, noting that “he will follow the Central Bank of Lebanon.” right of international companies to which Lebanon imports consumables for dialysis, to ensure access of dialysis companies, to pay their dues as soon as possible.

According to Al-Abyad, the meeting decided as follows:

The obligation not to incur any additional costs for patients.
Promise sponsors to explore ways to expedite the payment of hospital bills for dialysis to these entities.
Doctors do not charge extra to patients for dialysis sessions outside of the official rate.
Preparing a new study on the current cost of the dialysis session, the rates recently raised by the Ministry of Health and guarantors, in this condition will be discussed at the second meeting, scheduled for the eighteenth of this month, to make an appropriate decision in the matter.

In addition to Al Obeid, the meeting was attended by: Director General of the National Welfare Fund Muhammad Karaki, Director General of the Civil Servants Cooperative Yahya Khamis, Chief of Military Medicine, Brigadier General George Youssef, President of the General Union, Bechara Al Asmar, President of the Private Hospital Owners Syndicate, Suleiman Harun, President of the Lebanese Society of Nephrology, Robert Negm and Pierre Farah, representatives of companies importing dialysis supplies.
