The French Film Festival, which for 25 years has screened the most recent French-language production, begins this Thursday in Lisbon, with the premiere of the film “The Count of Monte Cristo”, by Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte.
The inauguration will take place at the São Jorge cinema, where the producer Dimitri Rassam and the French-Portuguese actor Patrick Mille, who participates in this film, will be present.
This year, the French Film Festival will present, for example, “Paradis Paris”, by the Iranian director and designer Marjane Satrapi, and “Maria”, by Jessica Palud, about the actress Maria Schneider and her participation in the film “The Last tango”. in Paris.”
From the same director as “Les Miserables,” the French Film Festival is also screening “Les Indesirables,” a social drama about housing policies and the defense of the rights of those who live on the outskirts of an urban center.
Director Ladj Ly will be in Lisbon to present the film together with actor Alexis Manenti.
Another highlight of this program is the premiere of two new sections, titled “Laughing Big and French” and “One Language, Multiple Looks – the French-Belgian co-production”.
The first is a special program composed of comedy films, while the second includes works resulting from Franco-Belgian co-productions.
The program also includes several recent films with actress Isabelle Huppert in the cast: “The New Neighbors” by André Téchiné, “Sidonie in Japan” by Élise Girard, “The Crime Is Mine” by François Ozon, or “De color (actions)”, by Benôit Jacquot.
This year, the festival highlights a Complete retrospective of the work of filmmaker Chris Marker (1921-2012), which will be screened at the Cinemateca Portuguesa, in Lisbon, during the month of November.
Between short films and feature films, such as “Sans Soleil” (1982) or “Level Five” (1995), the retrospective reveals more than fifty films and videos, including titles made for television, works that point to a creator’s search for new forms deeply original.
After Lisbon, the French Film Festival continues in Almada, Oeiras, Coimbra, Porto, Beja, Viseu, Faro and Lagos.
