GOP spokesperson Tenney: Buffalo shooter who took gun issue was ‘accountability issue’

On Newsmax TV’s Wake Up America on Monday, Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) said the buffalo hunter shouldn’t have bought a gun, but she missed it because her mental health history was not disclosed, adding that “New York City already has some of the strictest gun laws in the area. I don’t think changing the gun law will change that. Often times the problem is changing our reporting system and complying with existing laws.”

Tenney said:[T]A day and a half later, he was hospitalized to be checked for threats and mental health problems, and was subsequently released. Why wasn’t it reported to the authorities for investigation under our NICS law, but when that person appeared to have legally sold him a gun, why didn’t they? It’s a law we passed on the federal side. This is a reporting issue. It was something our hospitals, schools, and others needed to report, and this child’s access to guns should be denied. New York already has some of the toughest gun laws in the region. I don’t think changing the gun law will change that. Often times the problem is changing our reporting system and complying with existing laws.”
