House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC) said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Jose Diaz-Balart Reports” that he will issue an executive order on the policing practices of President Joe Biden to commemorate the upcoming anniversary of George Floyd’s death.
Diaz-Balart said: “Congressman, tomorrow, as you know, it’s been two years since George Floyd died after a Minneapolis police officer kneeled on Floyd’s neck. His death sparked calls for police reform. But talks between the two sides stalled. Is there any hope that someone will be out of here soon?”
Clyburn said, “Yes. I think the President will deal with some of them by appointment. We shouldn’t violate administrative orders. The Emancipation Proclamation is an executive order. Then Congress came and five or six years later the 13th Amendment was passed. We merged the armed forces, or Harry Truman did it on his own order. Congress acted a few years later. That’s the leadership style we have. Joe Biden is taking responsibility for this. Congress will do anything to get an executive order on these issues because it refuses to act. If Abraham Lincoln had waited for Congress to act, I didn’t know we would abolish slavery. “Joe Biden will not wait in Congress. He will order the execution,” he said.
