Chega’s president, André Ventura, said that the PS and PSD want to convey the idea that the party is a threat to Portuguese society because they are interested in “demonizing” it.
This Chega threat to the political system does not exist, Chega is not a threat to Portuguese democracy, nor a threat to the Portuguese political party system, but other parties, especially PS and PSD, want to make Chega a threat to society. because what is important to them is the permanent demonization of Chega,” said Ventura on Monday night, at the Clube dos Pensadores, in Vila Nova de Gaia.
Before a full room, the leader of Chega pointed out that, in three years, “there was never” an “idea of a threat to the system” by the party in Parliament.
“There was debate, confrontation, denunciation that the PSD did not want to do and that Chega agreed to replace, confrontation with the prime minister and more aggressive language, but I think the Portuguese needed more expressive language because they were tired of political correctness. ,” he said.
André Ventura stressed that the political system and the right have changedand added that those who think that the right will return to what it was must be disappointed.
In addition, he stressed that the breakdown of the traditional right is happening all over Europe and therefore Portugal is not an exception.
Insisting that the right is “reconfiguring itself” and that the political system is undergoing a “very profound regeneration,” Ventura stressed that Chega does not want to be a protest party, but rather a government.
“Us we want to be a government to effectively change people’s living conditions and, for that, we have to join efforts”, he stressed.
Saying that Chega wants to solve the problems, the president of the party considered that the concern should not be to form coalitions or not, but have a “credible and alternative” program so that when the elections come, people decide if they want Chega or the PS to govern the country.
