Buttigieg: Blaming school security for gun violence is ‘crazy’

Transport Minister Pete Buttigieg said on ABC’s This Week Sunday that people who blame school attacks with distrust are “the definition of insanity.”

Host George Stephanopoulos said, “You come to us from South Bend, the former mayor of this city. Let me ask you, what are you going to do after this epidemic of gun violence?”

Buttigieg said, “You know the worst part about being mayor is that there is nothing you can do to talk to the families of people who have lost loved ones and bring them back. As a mayor, like any mayor in the country, you do everything you can to reduce violence in the community, invest in partnerships and act locally. However, are you also looking to Washington to tell if things will be different this time around? Do we really accept the reasons why we are one country, one developed country, and that this happens regularly? The idea that we, as the only developed country, experience this regularly, especially in terms of mass killings, is somehow a result of the door design in our school buildings, the definition of insanity, if not rejection.
