Rep’s congressional campaign. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) reportedly kept his spending habits and earned nearly $60,000 in travel expenses while traveling to Miami Beach, Florida and Paris, France.
In fact, campaign travel costs from April 1 to May 18 were $57,094, just $10,000 less than the average American household salary in 2020, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Swalwell’s campaign, which had only two official employees, used 1000 cash for a luxury hotel and airfare. According to Fox News, the campaign will spend $4,708 on lodging at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel, where room rates range from $400 to $3,700 per night. He also spent $1,752 at the five-star La Maison Champs-Elysées in Paris, France, where room rates range from about $1,000 to $1,200 per night.
Fox News said luxury hotels are “away from the neighbourhood,” meaning the campaign needs to distribute money to airlines. The Swalwell campaign spent $13,312 for United Airlines flights, $7,815 for American Airlines and $1,300 for Alaska Airlines.
Additionally, the congressman donated nearly $6,000 to the luxury limousine obsession, along with $1,452 for Lyft rides and $1,055 for Uber rides, according to campaign statements. Fox News noted that all travel expenses add up to more than the combined costs of “communication consulting” and “fundraising services.”
Last year, Swalwell reportedly spent thousands of campaign dollars on alcohol and limo services, in addition to more than $20,000 at the same luxury hotel where his wife worked.
