In addition to “deeply regretting” what happened, the Ministry of Health affirms that, “In order to determine any and all responsibility, the General Inspection of Sanitary Activities (IGAS) has already initiated an investigation into the events.and concludes that, “pending the investigation, the results of which will be made public, it is not possible to establish any relationship between the two events.”

In a first note, the Board of Directors of the Centro Hospitalar do Oeste (CHO) confirmed that last Thursday, the obstetric emergency of the CHO “had limitations in filling the medical scale, which determined the closure of the emergency referred to CODU/ INEM. after defining patient referral circuits with other Hospitals”.

The hospital unit also highlights in the note that “a causal link between the death of the baby and the limitations to complete the scales has not been established.”

In the note, the CHO adds that it has “made every effort to hire the necessary professionals to provide the necessary response to the population.”

The Union of Independent Doctors (SIM) said today that the lack of response from obstetric services is the “fundamental reason” for what happened to a pregnant woman who lost her baby at the Caldas da Rainha hospital.
