Laxalt has benefited greatly from the support of conservative heavyweights, including former President Donald Trump, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX). He also has a long history of past leadership roles and name recognition that pushed him to the polls and eventually led to his victory over lesser-known candidate Sam Brown.
Laxalt will face incumbent Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) in November’s general election. Sometimes At the same time, the race for Cortes Masto was announced, with the current senator receiving 91 percent with 48 percent of the total votes. Laxalt previously told Breitbart News that Nevada’s position as the 51st seat of the Senate is heating up the race as the Republican Party tries to take the House and Senate out of the hands of the Democrats.
Democrats in Nevada are particularly vulnerable in this election, as both Cortez Masto and Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) is up for re-election. Democrats across the country are trying to distance themselves from President Joe Biden as his tanking plans are unpopular with him and those around him. Cortez Masto was hesitant to call himself a “Biden Democrat,” though he said the president was “always welcome in my state.”
In Nevada in particular, the Democrats’ primacy for radical left politics is estimated to be unpopular among Hispanic voters, a demographic key to securing state success.
“You need someone who’s strong and really willing to stand on their own feet,” Laxalt told Breitbart News in May. “Cortez Masto is the cliché of this open border policy that allows mass illegal immigration, massive increases in human trafficking, fentanyl and other drugs in our state. Therefore, when it comes to these questions, the difference is huge. And law enforcement actually withdrew its support in 2016. ”
Initial polls about Cortes Masto and Laxalt have already yielded strange results. A poll with the Nevada Electoral Survey Project (NESP), published in early June, showed Cortes Masto led Laxalt between 48% and 27% in a hypothetical match. Conversely, a survey published in early May showed Laxalt ahead of Cortés Masto by 47 to 46 percent, or one percent, which is within the survey’s four percent margin of error.
