Communist deputies against the “high work rates” in Autoeuropa

Communist deputies were, this Monday, in Autoeuropa distributing pamphlets with the party’s proposals and to show solidarity with the “high work rates” that concern the workers, said the PCP parliamentary leader.

Five of the six PCP deputies (Jerónimo de Sousa was not present) took advantage of the Autoeuropa shift changes, in Palmela, in the district of Setúbal, to bring the demands of the party to those workers.

one A4 sheet, on the one hand with proposals to increase public and private salariesincrease pensions by at least 20 euros, set maximum prices for food and fuel, or ten-year leases.

On the other hand, what the PCP says is evidence of the government’s inaction at the moment the country is living was printed.: a “real cut of 40 euros” in salaries and pensions of 800 euros; “In the recent past, salaries and pensions were cut by decree. Now the cut is imposed by refusing to update it.

Paula Santos, Bruno Dias, João Dias, Alma Rivera and Diana Ferreira. All of them with dozens of brochures in hand, trying to give them to those who had just finished their shift or were preparing to enter the service.

This initiative was part of the Parliamentary Sessions of the PCP, the first of this legislature, which take place between Monday and Tuesday in the Setúbal Peninsula, with a focus on rising prices, the need to assess wages and pensions and invest in Health.

Some accepted pamphlets, others did not, and Alma Rivera seemed to be the most successful when she approached. But not everyone was happy to see the deputies at the door.

“When was it necessary for you to be here? The PCP was not there at the time when there were changes in schedules, social changes”, she told parliamentary leader Paula Santos, one of the workers who was leaving, leaving the deputy without an answer.

Despite this episode, there was “a good receptivity on the part of the workers in relation to the PCP’s proposals,” Paula Santos told reporters.

The leader of the communist caucus added that the party also went to the factory to show solidarity with the workers in the face of “the high pace of work, which is leading to greater exploitation” and that it is “an attack on their rights.”

“There are working conditions that are not guaranteed. On the one hand, the high pace of work, on the other hand, the issue of purchasing power that was lost, ”he added.

A few meters in front of the turnstile that registers the entry and exit of workers is Lina Melo, cigarette in hand, sitting on a bench with two colleagues, until the bus arrives.

“I’m a kitchen preparer”, she replies peremptorily when asked what role she has played in the industrial colossus that is Autoeuropa. Lina Melo has been working here for 29 years, but the company she works for has changed. It is currently Eurest.

He told the leader and former deputy Duarte Alves that he used to charge a little more, “about 30 euros” for his duties, compared to more recent colleagues, but “the categories have been frozen for a few good years.”

“The boss doesn’t give a raise,” sighs the kitchen preparer who is in charge of helping to prepare between 1,200 and 1,400 meals for the Autoeuropa workers every day.

“We are here to help resolve this situation,” responded Duarte Alves after hearing these concerns.

Lina Melo simply replied “it was fine”, she got up and went to the bus, which had arrived in the meantime, since tomorrow is also a working day.
