IL warns that without reforms what will soon be said is that “the PS sank the SNS”

The president of the Liberal Initiative (IL), João Cotrim Figueiredo, warned this Thursday that, if the Government continues without making deep changes and reforms in health, what will soon be said is that “the PS sank the SNS.”

IL has scheduled a debate in parliament titled “SOS SNS” and presented five legislative initiatives, a debate in which the Minister of Health, Marta Temido, is present, and for which Chega, BE, PCP, PAN and Livre dragged their diplomas on the subject.

This debate today shows that there are alternatives and that it is possible to respond to the SOS even before the system is structurally reformed, but we already know that today the PS will whistle into the air, entertain itself with infighting, pretend that everything is fine and use the formula who ordered the propaganda machine: it was the PS that founded the SNS”, said João Cotrim Figueiredo.

If it continues like this, according to the Liberal deputy, “without changes or reforms” in Portugal’s health, what “will soon be said is that the PS sank the SNS.”

It is a bad sign that the day the Assembly of the Republic dedicates an entire agenda to the issue of health, the political and media country entertains itself with the sad spectacle of the internal struggles of the PS and the fights within a government with absolute majority. that is collapsing just three months after taking office because the collapse that the Portuguese are really interested in discussing is that of the SNS”, he lamented in reference to the case that marks the day for the decision on the new airport.

In João Cotrim Figueiredo’s analysis, “The chaos of the last few weeks is a real wake-up callit is indeed an SOS”.

“Whoever decides not to respond to this SOS, whoever ignores the growing signs of the system’s breakdown in recent years, whoever does not want to reform the SNS will be co-responsible for this collapse,” he warned.

It was precisely for this reason that the Liberals, according to their president, that the IL scheduled “long before the problems of June this optional debate so that each party had the opportunity to respond to this SOS and assume its responsibilities.”

“The proof that the debate was necessary is that all the parties took the opportunity to present numerous proposals. All except the PS, which prefers infighting, beeping in the air and ignoring the alert, and the PSD, which is closed for construction”, he criticized.

In the requests for clarification, the parliamentary leader of BE, Pedro Filipe Soares, criticized an “absolute majority that shocks the country”, of which health is one of the examples, also condemning that the Liberals do not do a single proposal to fix professionals and stating that “the closer the PS gets to the IL proposals” to open health to the private sector, “the worse public health gets.”

“The Liberal Initiative does not want more healthcare, it wants more business and it wants to do it at the expense of the SNS,” accused the blocker

For the PSD, deputy Cláudia Bento considered that the SNS “is apathetic, unstructured and sick”regretting that the “pink scenario” painted by the PS is not and defending that all health resources must be at the service of users, whether public, private or from the social sector.

In the Social Democrats’ analysis, most of the IL initiatives discussed in this debate “provide insufficient solutions to solve the problems,” except for the Model C USF bill.

In an intervention from the pulpit, the president of Chega, André Ventura, insisted on the lack of conditions that the Minister of Health has to continue in the Governmentconsidering that Marta Temido has lost the confidence of the Portuguese and that she remains in office “only because of the stubbornness” of the Prime Minister.

“The minister is sitting in this place, it is no longer because of the confidence of the Portuguese, it is only because of the stubbornness of a prime minister named António Costa,” said André Ventura, addressing Marta Temido.
