The president of the PSD, Luís Montenegro, considered this Monday that the country has gone from a time of pandemic to health chaos and urged the ministry to pay the debt to the fire brigades.
“We have had a time of pandemic [Covid-19] for a time of pandemonium. We have these days, in Portugal, complete chaos in the health systemranging from the closure of services to the lack of professionals and also the unjustified, unacceptable lack of support for those on the ground who contribute, for example, to the transport of patients, how about the firefighters“Luis Montenegro said.
The PSD leader spoke to journalists in Pedrógão Grande, in the Leiria district, on his first visit as incumbent party president.
The social democrat, who is accompanied, among others, by deputies, first met with mayors, in the Chamber of Pedrógão Grande, followed by a meeting with the Portuguese Firefighters League, in the municipal fire department.
At the end of this second meeting, Luís Montenegro considered that “The debt that the Ministry of Health has with the humanitarian firefighters associations is inappropriateyou have to pay, because if you don’t pay, the consequence is that the firefighters won’t be able to provide the service”.
“And we’re not just talking about the transportation service. Through the provision of this service, a financial deficit is created that makes firefighters they do not have the means for rescue operations even more relevant, such as accidents, such as forest fires,” he warned.
For Luís Montenegro, “the firefighters of Portugal and the Ministry of Health turns out to be the main responsible” are suffocating economically.

“Unfortunately he is not the only one, but he is the main responsible”, he declared, appealing to the Minister of Health, Marta Temido, to “fulfill, for once, the promise to pay what he owes to the firefighters”.
The president of the PSD defended that “the State has to be a good person with all its service providers, but with this one in particular it has to pay even more special attention.”
