On Sunday, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) responded to Democrats’ call to end the conflict in the Senate and summon the Supreme Court in response to recent court rulings.
In an interview with Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures”, Lee suggested that “Democrats hate the democratic process itself” and therefore want to expand the court.
“[T]He asks – why do they hate democracy? Why don’t they let people elect their representatives to make laws? That’s really what we’re talking about here,” Li explained. “All they’re saying is that if Congress wants to do such things, it has the power to approve them. Congress didn’t. If they want the government to act that way, Congress should do it. So what bothers them that laws are passed by legislators elected by the people? It’s as if the democratic process they hate him.”
“The constitution doesn’t work if you don’t have an independent federal judiciary, and the Supreme Court is the pinnacle of that,” he added. “That’s why they want to get rid of it. That’s why they want to expand it. They want to expand it to make it a political construct, and … it’s going to be a disaster.”
