Portugal expressed this Thursday its willingness to support the legislative elections in Guinea-Bissau, scheduled for December 18, according to a note from the Ministry of Territorial Administration of Guinea.
According to the note, published on the ministry’s Facebook page, Portugal’s availability was expressed during a meeting between the Minister of Territorial Administration, Fernando Gomes, and the Portuguese ambassador in Bissau, José Velez Caroço.
In the note, the Ministry of Territorial Administration highlights that the ambassador also promised to “work to strengthen the relationship between the two countries, above all, to close the gap between the Ministry of Territorial Administration of Guinea-Bissau and Portugal”.
Guinean President Umaro Sissoco Embaló dissolved the National Popular Assembly in May and formed a presidential initiative government, which includes elements from two parties, and scheduled legislative elections for December 18.
