The president of the Assembly of the Republic considered this Friday that Chega made an “erroneous interpretation” of the operating regime of the parliament by demanding an urgent debate on days without plenary sessions.
Augusto Santos Silva points out, in response to that party, that the normal period of operation of the Assembly of the Republic is September 15 to June 15 and that, outside of that period, it will be able to function in the terms in which the plenary decides.
At the beginning of June, the plenary approved the extension of the term of operation of the parliament until July 29allowing plenary sessions until the 8th and the 20th and 21st, reserving the 20th for the debate on the state of the nation.
Thus, it would be up to the leaders’ conference on the 20th to readjust the order of July 21, admitting that the urgent debate requested by Chega on the fires could take place that day.
Given Chega’s insistence that the debate be held this Friday or, if this is not possible, next Monday the 18th, Santos Silva reiterated the decision and foundations of the first office.
Chega insisted on his claim, acting on an erroneous interpretation of the constitutional and regimental regime of the normal period of operation of the Assembly of the Republic”, considered Augusto Santos Silva.
The president of the RA stressed that outside the normal period, between September 15 and June 15, the parliament works “only in the exact terms” of the deliberation of June 3, which determined that there would be meetings on the 20th and twenty-one.
In the appeal addressed to the president of parliament, Chega invoked that there is no “without order of suspension of sessionsand added a “political argument: the evident relevance and need for a discussion about the scourge of fires in the house of democracy.”
