PS accuses Coins of “disorientation” in the Lisbon Chamber after changing the role of World Youth Day

The PS expressed its concern this Friday about the dismissal of Councilor Laurinda Alves, from the Lisbon Chamber, from the coordination of World Youth Day 2023, considering that “this true dismissal” reflects “disorientation” and “disaggregation” of the address of the PSD/CDS -PAGES.

This actual dismissal, through a public notice signed by the mayor of Lisbon [Carlos Moedas, PSD]confirms what was already visible: Lisbon has been slow to assume its responsibilities, postponing the works and investments necessary for the celebration of the largest mass event ever held in the country”, said the Lisbon municipality of the Socialist Party (PS), in a statement sent to Lusa.

The Socialists highlight the leadership of the City Council’s proposal to extend the contract program with the municipal company Lisboa Ocidental SRU – Sociedade de Reabilitação Urbana, “which guarantee the necessary funds for the works of the Youth Days“, but that became unfeasible with the abstention of the municipal deputies of the PSD, since the municipal group of the PS abstained to allow the approval.

It was the most relevant failed proposal so far since he took office and, contrary to what Carlos Moedas systematically affirms, it was not the PS but the PSD that prevented him from governing”, said the Socialist Party Lisbon municipality.

In the same statement, the PS states that “all these episodes reinforce the feeling that, after nine months at the helm of the municipality, most of the ‘New Times’ are going through clear moments of disorientation with clear signs of disintegration.”

The strategy of permanent victimization, systematically assumed by Carlos Moedas, is officially buried”, said the Socialists, adding that even today the PS gave, once again, its vote for the resolution of a dead end caused by the PSD in the Municipal Assembly. of Lisbon, allowing the SRU program contract to be voted on again with the necessary funds for World Youth Day 2023.

The PS accuses the social democrat Carlos Moedas, who governs Lisbon without an absolute majority, of “several contradictions and hesitations” about the main electoral commitments assumed by the Novos Tempos coalition (PSD/CDS-PP/MPT/PPM/Aliança), indicating that “they reflect the inability shown by the city council to respond to the daily problems of Lisbon residents, such as housing, garbage collection (which is accumulates in the city) or the regulation of local accommodation”.

“Without abdicating its duty to lead the opposition, the PS will take on this task determined by the voters with a sense of responsibility. Lisbon urgently needs a government that begins to govern and that is not distracted by internal disputes,” the Socialists declared in a statement.

The mayor of Lisbon decided change the delegation of powers in the coordination of the World Youth Day 2023, removing the responsibility from councilor Laurinda Alves to assign it to the vice president of the municipal executive, Filipe Anacoreta Correia (CDS-PP).
