Luís Marques Mendes describes the confrontation between Chega and Santos Silva as “political theater.” “This conflict is only of interest to the political and media bubble. He doesn’t say anything to people. Everything is artificial. Everything is full of cynicism”, declared the former leader of the PSD in the usual comments to the SIC.
For Marques Mendes, however, there are those who benefit from these “maneuvers.” In this case, the Government will benefit because, “while talking about the ‘sex’ of angels, it is about diverting attention from the real problems of the country, health problems and inflation, for example.” Chega also benefits because “it shows that he makes a lot of opposition”, but Marques Mendes considers that what he does is “bad opposition”. It is that Chega’s attack on immigrants “is the greatest nonsense and the greatest injustice in the world.”
