The PCP announced on Tuesday the delivery to parliament of a draft emergency plan for the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, devastated by the biggest fire of the year, and criticized the announcements made by the Government without materializing.
A few days after the great fire that broke out in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park and that consumed more hectares this year — more than 22,000, corresponding to 25% of the total area — was extinguished, the communist leader Octávio Augusto criticized the government’s narrative. , which “insists that everything is fine”, while “reports of insufficient resources, lack of coordination, duplication of directives and command” follow.
In the opinion of the party, what is seen most of the executive in this matter is “the rulers calling themselves the laurels of what is going well and passing, when it goes wrong, the burden of the fires to the populations and to the individual.” behaviour”.
“It is evident that the fires refer to years of policy of disavowal and destruction of State organs in the areas of nature conservation and forest management and planning,” said Octávio Augusto, one of the 25 members of the Committee’s Political Commission. Communist Center.
When the legislative session resumes, the PCP will present a proposal for the “elaboration of an emergency plan that ensures the human, financial and technical resources for its management” and for “the defense and promotion of agricultural production.”
This plan, continued the official, also includes planning and programming measures to repopulate the forest and restore the “lost natural heritage.”
Asked by Lusa about the form that this proposal will take – bill or resolution -, Octávio Augusto said that the party is still deciding.
Along with this proposal, a diploma will also be delivered to establish “emergency soil stabilization measures for all major fires”, as well as the guarantee of public funding for this purpose.
