The Minister of the Interior Administration, José Luís Carneiro, classified today as “increasingly demanding” and “complex” forest fires in Portugalleaving a word of “tribute and solidarity” to Civil Protection agents.
“Everyone is owed a word of tribute, solidarity, support, to the forces and services that make up the national Civil Protection device,” he said.
The Minister of Internal Administration, who was speaking in Portalegre, during the Commitment of Honor ceremony for 291 new soldiers belonging to the 47th Guards Training Course of the GNR, also left a word of solidarity and support for the mayors and communities affected by the forest fires.
“All over the country [autarcas e comunidades] have faced and faced these increasingly demanding wildfire challenges and more complex for us, in Portugal, but for the countries of the European Union as a whole”, he said.
During the intervention, José Luis Carneiro praised the role of the GNR and the firefighters in fighting the fires, highlighting that “give the best of themselves” to defend and protect the environmental heritage, biodiversity and human life.
The 47th Guards Training Course in Portalegre lasted approximately eight months, during which time various matters related to general military training were addressed, and training in the legal and technical-professional areas.
The training also included a practical aspect (on-the-job training), with the aim of equipping temporary guards with the skills to perform GNR functions.
