The PSD accused the Government this Friday of violating the law by not presenting the report on the state of land use planning and requested the urgent appearance of the Minister of Territorial Cohesion to give explanations on this matter.
In a request addressed to the president of the Public Administration, Territory Planning and Local Power Commission, the PSD deputies consider that “the The government has irresponsibly neglected” the prevention of fires and “the correct ordering of the territory”.
Proof of this is that it flagrantly violates section 1 of article 189 of the legal regime of territorial planning instruments (DL No. 80/2015, of May 14), which obliges the Government, every two or two years, to present to the Assembly of the Republic the report on the state of the organization of the territory”, accuses the PSD.
The party alleges that, “since the diploma course was created, the Government has never presented any report, hiding information and making it impossible for the Assembly of the Republic to discuss the problems and present solutions.”
The Social Democratic deputies consider “all this incomprehensible and very worrying situation“.
The PSD requests “an urgent hearing” from the Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Ana Abrunhosa, so that she can clarify in depth on this matter” and also requests that the “Government, with the utmost urgency, send to the Assembly of the Republic, for its consideration, the report on the status of land use planning, in accordance with section 1 of article 189 of the legal regime of land use planning instruments (DL No. 80/2015, of May 14), as it should have done since 2017”.
This document would have been essential to proceed, with the established frequency and in the terms of the law, to the ‘balance of the execution of the territorial programs and plans, object of evaluation, as well as to the levels of internal control and external coordination obtained, substantiating a possible need for revision’”, highlight deputies Luís Gomes, Sofia Matos and João Barbosa de Melo, who signed the request released today.
And they accuse: “The violation of the law, in itself, is serious, and in the case that concerns us it is more serious because it masks the irresponsibility of the Government over the years, by not implementing the legal measures that would allow avoiding the tragedy that, one more year, we are living”.
Probably, if the Government had complied with the law, it would not now be using maneuvers to distract the Portuguese from failures in firefighting, since governing is anticipating and avoiding problems and not making announcements every day”, criticize the deputies. of the majority. in the opposition country.
Considering that “the dramatic situation in the country in terms of forest fires has revealed the absence of measures that seriously invest in prevention”, the Social Democrats argue that fires are avoided “with the implementation of instruments that guarantee the correct planning of the territory, and in particular the planning of rural spaces and forestry”.
