Nuno Melo will participate this Thursday in an action organized by Juventude Popular (JP) next to the venue that will host the Festa do “Avante!” in Seixal. The Christian Democracy will launch a poster where, in a play on words with the organization’s motto (“There is no party like this”), it will be possible to read: “There is no war like this.”
In a note sent to the Observer, Francisco Camacho, leader of JP, explains the objective of the initiative. “If the PCP continues to relativize the war, without condemning the Russian invasion, we make sure to remember the consequences of this, at the door of his house. There’s no reason for us to walk with our eyes closed, ignorant about what is happening in Ukraine”, argues Camacho.
“Even after six months, the PCP continues with the same attitude towards the war. Our goal is for you to be alone in this blind fanaticism”, can be read in the same statement. The poster in question will have references to Ukrainian cities particularly affected during this conflict and to various victims of the Russian regime.
“Kharkiv, Bucha, Odessa and Mariupol are ‘headlines’, while examples like torture, bombing of civilian targets, destruction of cultural heritage, massacres and sexual crimes appear as ‘secondary artists’ of this CDS youth ‘party’. There is still no lack of references to journalists and other figures who were brutally murdered,” the same statement explains.
The poster will be released in the early hours of this Thursday afternoon. In 2020, a similar action organized by JSD caused controversy and the billboard, with criticism for the fact that the initiative was being carried out at a critical moment in the pandemic, was finally withdrawn. You jacks The Social Democrats accused the PCP of having withdrawn the poster, which was finally replaced, coinciding with the National Electoral Commission (CNE) and the JSD.
