The feared one says goodbye and passes the wallet to the successor with wishes of “good luck”

Marta Temido fulfilled the task entrusted to her by the President of the Government before leaving her duties as Minister of Health, a request that she made public more than two weeks ago. She leaves closed -although the details are not known- the regulations of the new direction of the SNS and the “new Minister of Health” wishes her “good luck” and leaves her the responsibility of appointing this new director.

The diploma was on the agenda for approval by the Council of Ministers only on September 15, but it ended up being brought forward a week —as António Costa himself had already predicted— so that Marta Temido could be released earlier. From here the reform requested by Costa is completed, so the Minister of Health took advantage of the press conference of the Council of Ministers this Thursday to say goodbye and send “good luck” to his successor who should be known in the next few years days.

When asked if it will be the one who succeeds him who will choose the new executive director of the SNS, Temido said that this “is a new moment”, putting him in the hands of whoever follows him. Costa has always corrected those who ask for a “new minister” who can be a “minister or minister”, but Marta Temido referred to the “new Minister of Health” to wish him “the best of luck” and tell him that “working in the Government is teamwork. As for her future, the outgoing minister said that she will continue to do her job “: I will have other ways of serving the SNS”.

The questions about the date of substitution or the reasons for the departure were repeated among the journalists, but the Minister of the Presidency took over, sparing the minister answers at a moment of special fragility when she herself admitted, now out loud, that in his decision, the “personal context” was weighted. Thus, it was Mariana Vieira da Silva who threw António Costa the moment of the replacement, guaranteeing that this calendar will be articulated between the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic, who will only return this Saturday from his trip to Brazil.
