Montenegro hits the road with the government in its sights

A rented house for a week, a neighborhood for a month, the leader of the opposition on the way. Luís Montenegro hits the road this Monday to start a series of initiatives under the slogan “Feel Portugal in…”.

The objective of Montenegro is to dedicate a week to each district, islands and communities and, based on institutional contacts, with civil society and activists from each region, translate the initiatives into concrete proposals to take to the Assembly of the Republic.

The first initiative will have the Viseu district as a backdrop and will formally start this Monday, with a lunch with the local media. Audiences with businessmen, institutional visits, meetings with mayors, dinner-debates and meetings with social democratic activists are also planned.

The strategy is to leave Luís Montenegro connected to the political and media current, trying to overcome the obvious blockage of not being in Parliament. This first week takes place in the middle of the discussion of the emergency plan presented by the Government to face the inflationary crisis, which will serve as the slogan of the Social Democratic leader to take the opposition into account.

In addition, and after a particularly delicate period for the Government, with the accumulation of several blunders and the resignation of Marta Temido, a period that coincided with a rise in the polls for the PSD, the intention of the Social Democrats is to keep the globe full and improve the levels of acceptance (and political notoriety) of Montenegro.

On the side of the Social Democratic leader’s team, it is guaranteed that the president of the PSD intends to repeat the experience always in the same molds (rent a house and cook when there are no official dinners) throughout the country and communities.

After the Viseu region, Montenegro should opt for a district closer to Lisbon, since in October the Parliament will start debating the State Budget for 2023.
