Rui Lages assumes the presidency of the Chamber of Caminha on Wednesday

The vice president of the Chamber of Caminha, Rui Lages, 34, will assume the presidency of the municipality this Wednesdayin the ordinary meeting of the executive, after the resignation of Miguel Alves, appointed today as Deputy Secretary of State of the President of the Government.

“We have scheduled the House meeting for next Wednesday. It will be in this act that we will take possession. I, as president, and the councilor who will also assume new roles”, Rui Lages said today.

Contacted by the Portuguese agency, about the appointment of the mayor of Caminha, Miguel Alves, for the position of Undersecretary of State to the President of the Government, Rui Lages said that João Pinto will be the new councilor of the municipal executive, the fifth name on the list Socialist who ran for the Caminha Chamber, in the Viana do Castelo district, in the 2021 municipal elections.

The next mayor of Caminha added that he has not yet decided who will assume the position of vice president, nor has he defined the redistribution of responsibilities, before the departure of Miguel Alves.

“It was all very fast. but at the time it will be announced who will be the new vice president of the Chamber and the redistribution of responsibilities among the directors”, stated Rui Lajes, who has been in the Chamber of Caminha for five years.

According to Rui Lajes, the mayor of Caminha will resign on Friday, the day he will assume the post of Deputy Secretary of State to the Prime Minister, appointed by António Costa and already proposed to the President of the Republic.

“It was with great satisfaction that we saw our president be recognized by the Prime Minister of Portugal, being elected to the position he will occupy, of extreme political relevance and cohesion of the Government, and therefore only demonstrates the excellence of our president. . We were all very happy and it is a pride for the municipality of Caminha also have one more member in the Government”, he said in reference to Marina Gonçalves, Secretary of State for Housing.

The presidency of the Chamber of Caminha is, for Rui Lages, “a positive challenge”.

“Challenges are always seen positively, always looking to the future, in a strategic line that was drawn in the last elections,” he said, adding that the political strategy “it will be the same, with new faces and new protagonists who will always face the future with confidence and with a smile on his face”.

At the age of 34, in addition to being vice president of the municipality, Rui Lages is also responsible for urban planning and management, public and private works, financing applications and instruments, occupation of public roads and advertising, communication and traffic management. roads, control and administrative offenses, legal services, parishes and territorial cohesion, decentralization of powers, information technology, administrative modernization and simplification, and human resources and organization.

Born in Caminha, Rui Lages has a degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto and a Master’s degree in Criminal Law from the Catholic University of Porto.

He served as a deputy to the Municipal Assembly of Caminha, elected by the PS, between 2013 and 2017, the year in which he entered the list headed by Miguel Alves.

Between 2015 and 2017, the mayor held the position of assistant to the vice minister, in the XXI Constitutional Government, headed by António Costa.

The Prime Minister, António Costa, today proposed to the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the appointment of the current Mayor of Caminha, Miguel Alves, to the position of Deputy Secretary of State to the Prime Minister.

Miguel Alves, born in Lisbon and graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra, he is one of the socialist leaders closest to the current leader of the executive and his entry into António Costa’s team aims to strengthen the Government’s political coordination.
