The Minister of Economy, António Costa Silva, said this Sunday that a reduction in corporate tax in all companies would be “an extremely important signal for the entire industry” and “extremely beneficial” in the face of the current crisis.
“Today, given the crisis we have, I think it would be extremely beneficial to have this transverse reduction. and, from there, see what impact it can have in the future”, said the official in statements to journalists on the sidelines of a visit to Portuguese companies that, from today to Tuesday, participate in the MICAM footwear fair, in Milan, Italy. .

“I hope that in the negotiation of the income and competitiveness agreement and, later, in the General State Budgets, we can have that objective of reducing the IRC”, he added,
Although in the Government program what is expected is a selective reduction of the IRC, aimed at companies that reinvest part of their profits in economic activity, bet on technological innovation or hire qualified young people, Costa Silva guarantees that he always had “very clear that the country, somewhere, had to do this transversal reduction of the IRC”.
“I haven’t changed my mind”he assured, explaining that what happened was that “after the discussion, and within the scope of the government program”, what was registered was “the figure of selective reduction”.
“But I think we are on the way to a transversal reduction, which is going to be a very important signal for the entire industry,” he emphasized, adding: “I think that if we have the companies associated with this, [e] unions, in the area of social agreement, can also have the capacity for collective action to overcome all these crises”.
Regarding the discussion of the rent agreement, the Minister of Economy did not advance: “I did not want to anticipate what is going to happen. But we are going to take proposals that I think are also very interesting for companies”, he said.
Currently, the IRC rate is 21% on business profits up to 1.5 million euros. To this rate is added a state surcharge for the most profitable companies and a municipal surcharge.
