The president of the Liberal Initiative considered this Monday that the isolation to which the interior of the country “is condemned” is also mental and defended that the decentralization of powers must be accompanied by the decentralization of decisions.
The isolation to which a part of the interior of Portugal is condemned is not only a geographical isolation, it is also a mental isolation, they do not remember the interior when it is most needed”, criticized João Cotrim Figueiredo.
In this sense, he defended that “a country that does not develop harmoniously ends up not developing at all and ends up creating problems of depopulation in the interior and problems of overpopulation on the coast, and that is something that clearly needs to be reversed.” .
João Cotrim Figueiredo was speaking at the end of a visit to the Lapa do Lobo Foundation, in the municipality of Nelas, Viseu, a district where he had been for the last three days to carry out another Liberal Route that aims to “contact problems.”
To combat this “mental isolation”, he defended that the Liberal Routes are one of the ways to do it, since another of the objectives of this party initiative is to “also show how magnificent” it is done for the country and they are “absolutely extraordinary” . stuff”.
Another of the fights goes through the “decentralization of decisions”, defended Cotrim Figueiredo, and “not only of the powers and not only of the scarce resources that continue to be spent on activities that are decentralized.”
And what has been done, since the law decentralizing powers to local entities came into force, already lacks, from our point of view, a serious balance analysis, because it is not working”, he defended.
This because, he justified, in addition to the lack of decentralization of decisions, “the transfer of resources, when it is done, is done based on what is currently available” and this could translate into “duplication of resources.”
For this reason, he reinforced that “a balance could already be made” of the law on the delegation of powers and, in this sense, he assumed that it was in the district of Viseu where he began to request “data collection” from the Inter-municipal Communities. (CIM) and the municipalities individually.
It will lead to a deeper review of the delegation of powers law and we will take this initiative as soon as we have this set of data duly processed. (…) I have no doubt that we will have a thorough review, ”he assumed.
As a balance, Cotrim Figueiredo also said that there is “a subordination” in the regions that have been commanded “always by the PS, which has that tendency to forget the promises it makes”, such as “in those where the PSD had responsibility for many years”.
“Even when the problems are clearly identified, they have already appeared in previous budgets, they have already been in railway plans, they are already in PRR [Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência] and they continue without advancing, which is very difficult for us to explain”, he pointed out.
