The National Cybersecurity Center (CNC) confirmed this Wednesday “indications of computer attacks on the administrative network of the General Staff of the Armed Forces (EMGFA)” and the Public Ministry (MP) is investigating the cybercrime.

The newspaper Diário de Notícias (DN) advanced on Wednesday with the information of a new “serious” computer attack on the EMGFA network, “with the possibility of extradition of documents and reports.”
For its part, Notícias ao Minuto wrote that the information transmitted by the DN was confirmed to that online newspaper by the Ministry of National Defense, and the Government stated that “it informed the Public Ministry of the occurrence of a computer attack on the EMGFA network ”.
This is the second recorded attack in less than a month (the previous one was on September 8) reported by the DN, which at the time wrote that it was “a prolonged and unprecedented cyberattack against the EMGFA, in which documents from NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization, NATO) were extracted and published on the “darkweb”.
At the request of the PSD, the Minister of National Defense, Helena Carreiras, will go to parliament on October 11 to answer the questions of the deputies, behind closed doors, on cyber attacks and computer security of the Portuguese armed forces.
